North West local authorities
This map provides a snapshot of deprivation between ethnic groups in each local authority in the North West. Within each local authority, it displays the proportion of LSOAs (neighbourhoods) where there is a difference of at least 6 deciles between the most and least deprived ethnic groups in the neighbourhood. This is measured on a scale from 1 (group is in the most deprived 10% in England and Wales) to 10 (group is in the least deprived 10% in England and Wales). Â
Many local authorities have no (0%) neighbourhoods where the most and least deprived ethnic group register a difference of 6 deciles. Some local authorities have many such neighbourhoods, such as Manchester where in more than 1 in 4 (26%) neighbourhoods, the most and least deprived ethnic groups are at least 6 deciles apart. Â
The methodology utilised here is taken from a journal article by the GEDI project (Lloyd, et al., 2023).Â
Greater Manchester
This map provides a more granular look at deprivation between ethnic groups in LSOAs (neighbourhoods) across Greater Manchester local authority areas. Â
For each neighbourhood where data is available, it displays the most and least deprived ethnic groups, and the range in deprivation between ethnic groups. The GEDI project advise that values close to zero indicate that all ethnic groups have similar deprivation levels; values close to one indicate pronounced ethnic inequalities. In those circumstances, at least one group is highly deprived and at least one ethnic group in that same area has low deprivation levels. Â
Cheshire & Merseyside
